Singapore – Organised by the Interior Design Confederation Singapore (IDCS) and supported by the DesignSingapore Council, the prestigious Design Excellence Awards (DEA) Singapore is the most highly watched event on the interior design calendar.

This year, to match the DEA’s expanded edition to accept regional entries, a panel of renowned judges from Singapore, Hong Kong and Indonesia have been unveiled. They are namely: Professor Ghyung-Sook Ghim, Chief Judge for DEA 2015 and President of KOSID (Korean Society of Interior Architects/Designers), Peter Tay, Director of Peter Tay Studios; Chris Lee, Creative Director of Asylum Creative and President of The Design Society; Richard Ho, Principal of Richard Ho Architects and Thrust Chairperson of Singapore Institute of Architects; George Budiman, President of IDCS; Antony Chan, Founder and Director of CREAM and Chairman of the Hong Kong Interior Design Association; and Francis Surjaesputra, President of HDII (The Indonesian Society of Interior Designers).

These judges will evaluate the entries from industry practitioners and design students from both Singapore and the Asia Pacific for IDEA (Interior Design Excellence Award) and SPADE (Spatial Design Awards) respectively. Awards are given according to design categories including Hospitality, Corporate, Exhibition, Retail, Institution, Residential and Food and Beverage.

“As we increase the profile of the DEA with the inclusion of regional entries, it is also a natural progression to have a judging panel that boasts varied backgrounds and extensive experience that will befit the rising standard of works that have come our way over the years,” said George Budiman, President of the IDCS. “The DEA is one of our continued efforts to provide a platform for spatial designers to learn from others, to curate the best of spatial designs and uphold them to a level of excellence and pride.”

Professor Ghyung-Sook Ghim, Chief Judge of DEA 2015, who will be flying in on the night of the awards to represent her overseas counterparts and to personally congratulate the winners, added: “Singapore is an interesting melting pot of cultures and cosmopolitan views that gives rise to some exciting fusions in spatial design. It is indeed an honour to be part of this prestigious panel of judges and I look forward to seeing the range of top notch entries that I expect from Singapore and its Asia Pacific neighbours.”

Entries for DEA 2015 close on 25 September 2015, 2359 hours. The Design Excellence Awards ceremony will be held on 21 October 2015 at the Singapore Repertory Theatre. Tickets will be available for sale to the public at SGD 30 each for adults and SGD 15 for students (networking buffet dinner included). There are a total of 17 categories for I-DEA (Local) and SPADE (Local) and 8 categories for I-DEA (Asia Pacific) and SPADE (Asia Pacific), and 3 winners (Gold, Silver and Bronze) for each category. Each project submission costs SGD 295 for I-DEA and SGD 20 for SPADE. In order to qualify for Asia Pacific entry submission, the designer of the project must be from Asia Pacific. Projects may be from any part of the world.

For the first time, there will also be a public voting for the People’s Choice DEA from 3-18 October 2015 where the public will vote for their favourite design regardless of category. 6 lucky participants who have voted for the most popular entry (3 for industry and 3 for students) will win designer furniture and products.
