Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – The APSDA Awards 2025 Preview and the presentation of the Asia Pacific Interior Designers’ Accreditation Program (AP-ID-AP) captivated attendees at the REKA Interiors Exhibition and REKA Conference 2024 held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). Jointly organised by the Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers (MIID) and C.I.S Network, the events gathered designers, industry professionals, and innovators from across the Asia-Pacific region, showcasing design excellence and the latest advancements in professional standards.
The APSDA Awards 2025 Preview on 31st October 2024 offered insights into evolving trends, new award categories, and the growing emphasis on sustainability in interior design. A highlight was the fireside chat with IDr Lai Siew Hong, Chairman of the APSDA Awards & Competition Department, and Mr. Donny Lee from Chi Design Sdn Bhd, a Bronze Winner at the APSDA Awards 2023. Their discussion explored the challenges and opportunities in today’s design landscape, offering valuable perspectives on how designers can navigate and thrive in a dynamic industry.
A focal point of the preview was the introduction of new award categories aimed at expanding recognition across diverse design disciplines.
The ‘Project of the Year – Residential’ category has been restructured to better reflect the varied challenges and solutions in residential design. It now features three segments: Apartment/Condo, Show Units, and Landed Residential, with the Landed Residential segment further divided by size into Small (<150 sqm) and Big (>150 sqm).
Additionally, the new Interior Product of the Year category celebrates excellence in product design, with sub-categories for Residential Furniture, Contract Furniture, and Space Lighting. The Best Project of the Country/Territory category highlights the cultural diversity and unique design perspectives that enrich the interior design profession across the Asia-Pacific region.
The APSDA Awards 2025 will incorporate sustainability as one of its key judging criteria, ensuring that projects are recognised not only for their aesthetic appeal but also for their meaningful contributions to environmental responsibility and community well-being.
