NICHIA, one of the world’s largest LED Manufacturers and the inventor of the high-brightness blue and white LEDs, announces a new and improved Circadian Tunable LED offering. This new tunable LED pairing has been developed to enhance the regulation of your Body Clock by combining both the stimulation and calming doses, in addition to color tuning.

\n\n

This Circadian Tune technology harnesses NICHIA’s expertise in developing a unique Phosphor Converted Cyan, among other semiconductor processes and packaging techniques. The supplementary component is the inclusion of NICHIA’s newly launched LEDs with TriGain® technology, a potassium fluorosilicate (PFS) based phosphor technology licensed to NICHIA through a strategic partnership with GE Current.

\n\n

Most existing human-centric lighting systems mainly work by changing CCT (correlated color temperature). Some have started using individual “energizing” or “calming” LEDs, including NICHIA’s Vitasolis™. However, NICHIA’s new Circadian Tune LED products will raise the bar to also address efficacy, color quality and increased Melanopsin Stimulation, the light that explicitly targets melanopsin-containing neurons in the retina of the eye. These neurons, called Intrinsically Photosensitive Retinal Ganglion Cells (ipRGCs), are connected to a region of the brain responsible for regulation of the 24-hour circadian cycle along with associated reflexive neuronal and hormonal responses to the presence of light.

Using NICHIA’s new Circadian Tune technology, the high MR and cooler CCT will reduce fatigue and provide greater alertness to help office workers remain in an awakened state of mind or help night workers complete their shifts effectively. At a low MR and warm CCT, the focus switches to relaxation, prompting a feeling of safety and initializing a transition to sleep. A sense of time is therefore introduced when both proper melanopsin stimulus and variable CCT is being applied.

“New Circadian Tune LED products are truly innovative. Through an optimization of efficacy, color quality and Melanopsin Stimulation, we can better target ipRGCs. Additionally, the utilization of a traditional 80 CRI warm white for the relaxing portion limits the color quality of the system. To overcome these limitations, NICHIA has introduced this Phosphor Converted Cyan and Warm White TriGain® pairing,” explains Satoshi Okada, General Lighting Business Planning Manager of NICHIA Japan.

LEDs with TriGain® technology are available now in NICHIA’s 757 series, the industry’s first and leading mid-power LED. The new unique Phosphor Converted Cyan will be available within the first half of 2021.

Sky Studios, had its Osterley office’s reception area to undergo transformation for a more contemporary brighter and inviting feel. The Sky Creative Team had then engaged David Atkinson Lighting Design (DALD) for the project.

\n\n

Lighting Concept

\n\n

General lighting of the space was quite a challenge as the existing metal tile ceiling is finished in dark grey with a charcoal floor, which limited the amount of ambient
\nreflection. It was decided to introduce a fragmented linear lighting approach which would create a bold feature in the overall design of the space. Linear extrusion strips in varying lengths with opal diffusers were suspended below the ceiling and fitted with cool white 4000-kelvin LED with Dali gear.

\n\n

The grey granite reception wall was fitted with a full length floor to ceiling graphic light box which adds a real sense of depth as well as increasing the overall ambient lighting level of the space.

\n\n

The existing reception desk was fitted with a stretched printed fabric and backlit by 4000K LED strips.

\n\n

To add further depth and perspective the main staircase link to the upper floors incorporates Pixel LED strips mounted to the edge of the riser, which runs a series of programmable sequences subject to any live events being held in the studios or simply the Sky spectrum.

\n\n

Based on the studios being used for news and sport the design team incorporated large showcases which featured items from sporting events. For continuity the showcases were internally illuminated with 4000K LED strips.

\n\n

Under the main staircase a Formula 1 car is displayed, which is top lit by a large programmable light box and a series of track mounted studio lighting fixtures fitted with 3000K (warm) LED. The rear space is again lit by a combination of suspended linear extrusion strips and a large wall mounted graphic light box.

\n\n

Control of the lighting was from a Pharos controller which runs all the DMX fixtures that include the Pixel Stair treads and F1 ceiling light box. The suspended DALI linear strips, graphic light boxes and showcases and auxiliary items were controlled from the base build Schneider BMS control system.

The lighting design helps to reflect the nature of the building being a television broadcast centre as well as helping to open up the space and give an inviting dynamic

Osram has developed extensive interior lighting solution for Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center (Shenzhen World).

With installation of more than 100,000 indoor LED fixtures in over ten indoors areas such as the multifunctional hall, the media center, the ballroom, the international lecture hall and the stadium, Osram aims to illuminate the entire venue evenly by taking full advantage of daylight and arranges lighting in such a way that it meets the special needs of the individual areas.

In line with Shenzhen World's commitment to sustainability, Osram strategically placed the LED installations based on the daylight characteristics of the building to ensure efficient use. The various light scenarios in the interior are geared towards human well-being. All LED lights are connected to the central system for lighting control in order to achieve the goal of needs-based use.
