On 26th November 2024, the international lighting design consultancy Nulty announced that it had acquired KLAASEN Lighting Design, bringing on a 40-year-strong brand and broadening its geographical footprint.

Through this strategic acquisition, Nulty will significantly enhance its presence in Europe and Asia, particularly in Singapore where KLAASEN has been an influential player for over 30 years. This decision resulted from a long-standing relationship between the two practices, which both share the goal of delivering innovative architectural lighting design through collaborative client relationships.

KLAASEN Founder Martin Klaasen will assume the position of Managing Partner, undertaking a key leadership role to oversee and manage the integration of KLAASEN into the Nulty team. As a lighting designer, speaker and highly respected industry contributor, Martin will work closely with Nulty’s Founder Paul Nulty and Managing Partner Mark Vowles to oversee projects in the Asia-Pacific region and maintain the highest level of creative work and customer service.

The Lisbon studio will see Jordan Faust taking on the role of Managing Partner, which will merge into Nulty to form a European division. Jordan, a trained lighting designer and landscape architect, has produced lighting schemes for major brands and developments across Europe, Asia and Australia. To gain new project work throughout Europe, Jordan will partner with Ellie Coombs, Managing Partner of Nulty’s London studio, drawing upon the team’s multisector design expertise and wide network of architecture and design clients.

“Today marks an exciting new chapter as we welcome KLAASEN into our Nulty family,” Paul Nulty said. “As we look to consolidate our position as a market-leading brand and build alliances in key markets, Martin and his team will fuel our growth plan and provide an injection of new talent and specialist expertise. We’re delighted to have them on board to take Nulty to greater heights.”

Similarly, Martin Klaasen shared his excitement, commenting, “This is a gratifying moment in my career and a moment where I can with great confidence and enthusiasm step into the future—one that will be exponentially multiplied by the integration of our two experienced teams. Both Paul and I have had an aligned vision for a long time, and therefore it makes total sense for us to enter this next phase together, with KLAASEN now an intrinsic part of the Nulty story.”
